This vegan chai hot chocolate recipe is easy to make and…YUM! I made a quick homemade chai spice mix, but a store bought one can be used as well. I left pepper out of my mix since I was not in the mood for a lot of spice, but white pepper can be added to the mix. The Gula Java Cacao in this recipe is high in antioxidants and sweetened with coconut blossom sugar. If this is not available, unsweetened cacao can be used and sugar can be added to the recipe.
Ingredients and instructions
1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
1 tablespoon Aman Prana Gula Java Cacao (or unsweetened cacao powder)
1/2 teaspoon chai spice (see recipe below)
1/2 tablespoon Florida Crystals demerara sugar (only if Aman Prana cacao not used)
Add all ingredients to small saucepan and bring to a light boil over medium heat. Simmer for 3 minutes until spices have dissolved. Enjoy!
Chai Spice Mix
2 teaspoons ground cardamom
1 teaspoon allspice
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container, or spice jar.
