Find out why I don’t have cellulite, and how you might be able to prevent it, or get rid of it.

I know I might create some female haters for this post. I am not sure at what age cellulite is still reversible, if at all, so maybe this post is aimed at the young 20’s lovelies out there that care, fear, or feel like they are doomed to have cellulite and want to try to prevent it. Regardless, these are healthy things to do no matter what your motivation, so I wanted to share.

Fitness advice circa 1959 from Bonnie Prudden

A friend was cleaning out her family home and ran across this fitness record by Bonnie Prudden. She gave it to me thinking I might be interested in seeing the workout she remembers doing as a kid, along with members of her family. I had never heard of Bonnie Prudden, and when I opened the record, it seemed I had struck gold! A whole workout with pictures, instructions, and advice. The exercise facts below are quoted exactly as found in the album text. Obviously the word choices reflect the year 1959, but over all, the advice still holds up today.

You ARE a health nut if……

The things you do

1. You ARE a health nut if you have eliminated at least 3 of these things from your diet: Gluten, Soy, Dairy, Meat. If you have eliminated all of those, as well as corn and peanuts, whoa you mean business!

2. You ARE a health nut if you are buying and drinking water only from glass containers.

3. You ARE a health nut if you “know” about: being a vegan, proper food combining, the pale diet, the blood type diet, fasting, raw food, cleansing, and sprouting.

4. You ARE a health nut if you: soak your nuts prior to eating.

5. You ARE a health nut if your smoothies look like mud because there is a MINIMUM of 6 ingredients in each one you make.

The things you say

6. You ARE a health nut if you can ramble on about your love of super foods like acai, goji, sea buckthorn, spirulina, chlorella, quinoa, mangosteen, noni, reishi and chaga.

7. You ARE a health nut if you are having conversations about how many supplements you take.

8. You ARE a health nut if you have an obsession with a certain kind of workout.

9. You ARE a health nut if these words have come out of your mouth: “I can’t. I’m cleansing right now.”

10. You ARE a health nut if your response to eating certain seafood is: “I don’t eat bottom feeders”

The relinquishing of time creates more time. One hour of exercise = everlasting energy.

With the right pace, mindset, and diet, anything is possible. Most of us manage business(s), raise families, and nurture relationships both personal and professional day in and day out, and believe it or not, exercise GIVES you the energy to do this.

Want a faster more effective workout? Then slow it down.

more effective workout

Want a more effective workout? Picture this: You are sitting on an overhead press machine (image above), or holding two dumbbells and pressing the weight overhead over and over again with the intention of building muscle strength and definition to the shoulder girdle. The “typical” formula used in gyms is performing “3 sets of 15 repetitions (or reps)” of each exercise you do. There is a more effective workout! Read on:

Questions for Melanie. Are you a Vegan, and how did you get your arms so toned?

After reposting the “trash the dress” photo shoot. I received a few similar questions from readers. I decided it was easiest to answer them in a post.

I’ve seen you write posts about being Vegan. How long have you been a vegan? Almost 20 years

Are you a strict vegan? Not by the most strict vegan standards. I wear leather, I eat honey, bee pollen, royal jelly etc. The only dairy I product I consume at home is raw butter sometimes. I eat as vegan as possible out at restaurants, but with a relaxed approach. I am sure I have consumed some chicken stock or hidden dairy over the years, especially when it comes to birthday cake!

Have you used a Fit Ball or Stability Ball before? We are sharing some great ways to use it!

Stability Ball

No excuses here! Whether the weather is cruddy, you are crunched for time, or a true multi-tasker at heart, using a fit ball/stability ball at home is awesome. Even if you don’t use it to work out, having it as an alternative office chair is such a healthy idea! Just sitting on it while you work will align the spine, work your balance, and force the core to engage.

Fitness Tip Inspiration From Ballet

Ballet at your desk? Whether you are sitting at your desk or driving in your car, take opportunities to work your core and check your posture.

Pull your belly-button to your spine, lift the chest, and place your chin level with the floor. Hold this as long as possible and do it as often as you remember.

By pulling that “pouch” in and flattening the transverse abdominal muscles you will help to train them to stay that way!
