truMedic TENS Unit Review and Giveaway

truMedic TENS Unit

The winner has been chosen! Congratulations Kelly, we hope you love your truMedic TENS unit!

Since the start of 2016, I have been studying electricity and its relationship to healing. You can read what we have shared so far in this post. I was thrilled when truMedic contacted us about doing a product review and giveaway for a TENS unit! I knew these types of machines were commonly used by physical therapists, and coincidently my chiropractor had recently added TENS to her practice. I could deduce what the benefits are by how they are used, but I honestly didn’t know much.

Folic acid. What you need to know.

Our genes naturally program the creation of tens of thousands of proteins and enzymes telling each of our 70 trillion cells what to do. The MTHFR gene specifically codes for an enzyme called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase. This enzyme (also known as MTHFR) depends on folate or folic acid to function, and also influences folate activity in the body.

What is the difference between Kefir and Yogurt?

difference between kefir and yogurt

What is the difference between kefir and yogurt? Yogurt is produced by a fermentation process using bacteria, and kefir is produced by a fermentation process using bacteria and yeast. If you have ever tasted any kind of kefir, you notice it is in more of a liquid state compared to yogurt, and has a kind of a bubbly sensation similar to champagne.

Herbal Ice Cubes

Herbal ice cubes make a cool (pun intended) remedy for hot summer itches and scratches! Bug bites, poison ivy, hives and other allergic skin reactions can keep kids and adults up at night because of the constant discomfort. Kids especially will scratch an itch unconsciously as they are falling asleep, only to wake up the next morning with inflamed skin, not only from the reaction, but from the self inflicted scrapes which can potentially turn into an infection. A great bedtime tip for you to try is to apply herbal ice cubes. (more…)

“A” words for your Post Workout Smoothie. Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Oxidants, & Alkalize

Keep these three “A” words in mind when choosing ingredients for a post workout smoothie: Anti-inflammatory, Anti-oxidants, and Alkalize. Always reach for greens and plants for the alkalize portion (that is why we choose plant protein vs animal protein post workout). Herbs and omega oils give you powerful anti-inflammatory action, and super fruits will give you the most antioxidant protection, whether the whole food or a concentrate is used.

Cartilage, collagen, and chondrocytes.

Let’s have a quick lesson on joint health and cartilage to help keep away the pain and stiffness commonly associated with aging.

Cartilage building cells are called chondrocytes. As we age, chondrocyte activity slows down and eventually fails to adequately compensate for the daily wear and tear placed on the joint. But don’t let that discourage you, and don’t give up on your joints!

What is an Alkaline Diet? Nicole describes in her own words:

Have you heard the word alkaline often? I have been hearing it more and more. I’ve seen the same massage therapist since I was 14 years old who is also a Naturopathic Physician (so I get lots of great advice when getting a massage!). She has always spoke about the body being alkalized and how she believes that prevents cancer in her opinion. I felt that I had a pretty alkalized diet (lots of greens, not much meat, no sugar or caffeine) so I was on the right track there. That’s about all I knew!

3 Things to consider above & beyond doing a cleanse: Supplements, elimination, & core.

Everyone wants a “quick fix”. This fact will probably remain true until the end of time. Doing a cleanse has long been a popular cure-all choice. The problem with the “quick fix” is that the problem you are trying to fix has probably taken years to form, and you may feel like you have been successful with a “quick fix” remedy, only to find out weeks or months later that the problem is still there or it has “come back”.
