Strawberry Smoothie Masterpiece

strawberry smoothie

When I run out of almond, rice, or coconut milk, one of which is usually the base of my smoothies, I will use part water and part organic juice if I happen to have some on hand. When you use whey protein in your smoothies, it will give it a creamy “milkshake” consistency. However, don’t over blend it, because some whey proteins will change your smoothie to more of a frothy consistency.

B is for Bananas and Beets

Chances are you are already a banana eater, unless you have shied away from them because of negative ads you may have seen on  the Internet making them seem unhealthy. On the flip side, you probably “don’t like” beets, so you are nowhere near close to eating enough of them for optimal health. Let’s vow to change our attitudes toward bananas and beets, and start consuming them more often! Here’s why:

Vegan Chai Hot Chocolate Recipe

Vegan Chai Hot Chocolate

This vegan chai hot chocolate recipe is easy to make and…YUM! I made a quick homemade chai spice mix, but a store bought one can be used as well. I left pepper out of my mix since I was not in the mood for a lot of spice, but white pepper can be added to the mix. The Gula Java Cacao in this recipe is high in antioxidants and sweetened with coconut blossom sugar. If this is not available, unsweetened cacao can be used and sugar can be added to the recipe.

Product review: Amanprana ORAC Botanico Herb Mix

ORAC Botanico Herb Mix

I was very excited to try the Aman Prana High ORAC Botanico herb mix, mainly because I am so excited about this entire company and the products they are making available. All of the Aman Prana products, including coconut oil, matcha, and Gula Java coconut blossom sugar, are rated according to their ORAC value, glycemic (GI) value, Bovis value – this is a frequency value that measures the energy and vitality present in our bodies and foods, and Yin and Yang value – a popular measure in traditional Chinese medicine. These measurements alone, found on all of their products, set Aman Prana apart from any other company that I am familiar with.

Book Review: The Matcha Miracle

The Matcha Miracle

Alert calm. That is a great description for one of matcha’s side effects. What is matcha? The simple explanation is that it is ground up green tea leaves. The tea leaves are ground so fine that the powder dissolves in water. This preparation has been used for centuries in the Far East.

Chocolate Cake Batter Smoothie

Chocolate cake batter smoothie

Yes, you read that right! This was just a random combination of ingredients I threw together one morning, and I was pleasantly surprised when the first sip I took tasted like chocolate cake batter! It has been decades since I have tasted actual chocolate cake batter, so maybe I am delusional. But no matter what you want to call it, it was delicious!

Outer Spice Giveaway

Outer Spice

Congratulations Kindra! The winner of this giveaway! I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes! I was very excited to try the new spice blends from Outer Spice. First, I started substituting my usual spices with the Outer Spice blends into meals that I have cooked for my family in the past. I used them in spaghetti sauce, as a seasoning for chicken, and in egg sandwiches. Everyone loved how the spices subtly changed the flavor of each meal, especially in the egg sandwiches. My fiancé specifically said that his egg sandwiches tasted “much better” with the new seasonings.

Guest Post: 7 Foods for your heart

Foods for your heart

In order to prevent heart disease, we should try and do what we can to maintain a healthy heart and circulatory system (arteries, veins, capillaries and so on). The two main pillars as far as good health is concerned have always been a regular exercise regime and a balanced diet and, while it’s relatively easy to walk or cycle a few miles and know that you’re better off than you would have been otherwise, diet takes a bit more thought.

Applesauce and Antioxidants Smoothie

Applesauce Smoothie

Recently my 5 year old niece came for a visit. After our visitors left, I noticed an unopened jar of organic unsweetened applesauce in the refrigerator that was purchased for my niece, but hadn’t been used. I’m not really an applesauce eater, so there it sat for days until I was making a smoothie one day and I thought that it just might be a nice addition.

Think Prevention with this Smoothie Recipe

think prevention

We have posted very similar smoothie recipes to this one in the past, but it is worth repeating since this month we are talking a lot about antioxidants, and focusing on things you can do daily that equal cancer prevention, instead of focusing on just the search for the cure.
