Recipe: Oven Braised Turnips. Easy and delicious vegan side dish, or a light lunch with a fresh salad.

If you loved the garlic mashed turnips recipe, then you have to try this one next! Oven braised turnips prepared cut, instead of mashed, is a great way to really enjoy the true earthy flavor of turnips. It can be used as a very tasty side dish, or even eaten as a light lunch with a fresh salad.

Ingredients needed

5 – 6 turnips, trimmed, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch wedges

Turnips5
2 tablespoons olive oil
1-1/2 heads garlic, separated into cloves, smashed and peeled
2 bay leaves, broken in half
1-1/2 cups vegetable stock
1/4 teasoon thyme
1/4 teasoon rubbed sage
1/4 teaspoon oregano
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Cooking instructions

Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 500.

Place the turnips in a roasting pan with enough room that they can be spread in a single layer. Add turnips to roasting pan, slick with olive oil, and roast for 15 minutes.

Flip the turnips over. Add the garlic and roast for 5 minutes. Flip the turnips and garlic over. Tuck the bay leaves under the turnips. Add the stock and herbs. Roast for 10 minutes.

Flip the garlic and turnips over. Roast for 10 more minutes. By this time the liquid will be mostly absorbed. Remove bay leaves. Add salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
