Amazon to Africa Smoothie Recipe

Amazon African Smoothie

This smoothie has a couple of unique ingredients, but they are readily available at your natural foods market. Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a berry found in the Amazon Rainforest. Rich in antioxidants, fiber, and omegas. Baobab (pronounced bay-o-bob) is a tree native to Africa and it produces a “super fruit” especially high in vitamin C and electrolytes.

Smoothie Recipe: The Healthy Version of a McDonald’s Strawberry Shake

Strawberry Shake

I’m not sure what a McDonald’s Strawberry Shake tastes like today, or even if they still sell them. I honestly have not stepped foot into a McDonald’s in about 20 years, other than to maybe use the restroom on a long road trip. However, strawberry milkshakes from McDonald’s were something I loved as a kid.

“A” words for your Post Workout Smoothie. Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Oxidants, & Alkalize

Keep these three “A” words in mind when choosing ingredients for a post workout smoothie: Anti-inflammatory, Anti-oxidants, and Alkalize. Always reach for greens and plants for the alkalize portion (that is why we choose plant protein vs animal protein post workout). Herbs and omega oils give you powerful anti-inflammatory action, and super fruits will give you the most antioxidant protection, whether the whole food or a concentrate is used.

Berry Crazy Smoothie

This smoothie recipe is a variation of the Strawberry Smoothie Masterpiece we have already posted. This one is berry crazy and berry delicious. 🙂 The recipe serves 2 people, so cut the recipe in half if you are going solo. Hint: berry smoothies are great for hiding any green ingredient that you’d like to hide from picky family members. 😉

Strawberry Smoothie Masterpiece

strawberry smoothie

When I run out of almond, rice, or coconut milk, one of which is usually the base of my smoothies, I will use part water and part organic juice if I happen to have some on hand. When you use whey protein in your smoothies, it will give it a creamy “milkshake” consistency. However, don’t over blend it, because some whey proteins will change your smoothie to more of a frothy consistency.

Smoothie Recipe: Berries and Greens and good for your Belly

Berries and Greens

This berries and greens smoothie has a thin consistency, which is a nice change of pace. I added the honey because all of the ingredients were “unsweetened”. If you are trying to reduce sugar consumption, just eliminate the honey. When it comes to getting family members, picky eaters, or newbies to smoothie making, to drink concoctions like this, adding raw honey or dates can help ensure it will be consumed!

Smoothie Recipe: Post Dentist Recovery Meal

Post Dentist Smoothie

This was the smoothie I made after getting home from my trip to the holistic dentist. The only procedure I had done was a cleaning, and the techniques they use minimize bacteria and inflammation, but it is always good to support the body’s healing and cleansing processes as much as possible.

Chocolate Cake Batter Smoothie

Chocolate cake batter smoothie

Yes, you read that right! This was just a random combination of ingredients I threw together one morning, and I was pleasantly surprised when the first sip I took tasted like chocolate cake batter! It has been decades since I have tasted actual chocolate cake batter, so maybe I am delusional. But no matter what you want to call it, it was delicious!

Applesauce and Antioxidants Smoothie

Applesauce Smoothie

Recently my 5 year old niece came for a visit. After our visitors left, I noticed an unopened jar of organic unsweetened applesauce in the refrigerator that was purchased for my niece, but hadn’t been used. I’m not really an applesauce eater, so there it sat for days until I was making a smoothie one day and I thought that it just might be a nice addition.
